Meet the TRUE ORIGIN STAFF Team

Meet the people behind True Origin!  The staff members  are a small close knit team who all have a passion for making the world a better place.  Here you can learn more about them and their roles within True Origin.

Tracy Mitchell
MANAGING DIRECTOR

Started at True Origin in January 2009

With 13 years’ experience as a project manager within Diageo, Tracy spent 4 years as Foundation and Programme Manager at Shared Interest (the world’s only fair trade lender). She joined True Origin as it was getting going and has held a variety of roles over the years, moving into her current role as part-time Managing Director in spring 2020. 

Tracy is active within the social enterprise and fair trade sector more widely too – she is a qualified social auditor and has been a fair trader within her church in Glasgow for almost 20 years, she served 3 terms on the Board of the Scottish Fair Trade Forum, including 6 years as Treasurer, she coordinates her local Fair Trade Town group and was instrumental in the setting up of the Fair Trade Nurseries work within Scotland.  

Martin Hamilton
OPERATIONS MANAGER

Started at True Origin in Feb 2010

I have worked at True Origin for over 10 years, starting as a warehouse assistant. I had no previous employment experience and I was hired through a get back to work scheme and I am grateful for the belief that True Origin had in me and for giving me a chance.  I have managed to work my way up the ladder gaining an in depth knowledge of everything True Origin does, and I'm now the Operations Manager.  In my current role I am responsible for all the imports of our fantastic products from 7 producer groups in 6 countries and managing all aspects of the warehouse.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGER

Started at True Origin in August 2016

My journey with True Origin started as an admin assistant, I had been made redundant from a previous role and out of work for several months before joining True Origin. I have previously held various admin type roles across various industries, but True Origin is my first foray into the third sector. 

I have undertaken the role  of Customer Relationship Manager since 2018 which involves working with our existing customers to grow sales whilst also looking for new customers. It has been challenging at times but most definitely rewarding knowing that the work we do has a positive impact on the producers and communities we work with.

0FFICE & E-COMMERCE MANAGER

Started at True Origin in December 2017

I started off as the Admin Assistant, followed by Administrator, then Office Manager and I have recently taken on the combined role of E-Commerce and Office Manager. 

I will still be responsible for day to day running of the office but will also now be responsible for both our online shops and all other online sales platforms such as eBay.  I will ensure that they are all kept up to date and offer the best customer online shopping experience possible.

Steven Hendrie
LOGISTICS & QUALITY COORDINATOR

Started at True Origin in October 2021

I work at True Origin as the Logistics & Quality Coordinator. In this role I am responsible for importing our range of excellent products. I also help with warehouse duties i.e., loading and offloading vehicles and containers using the forklift truck, picking and securely packing our products to send to our customers. 

I have previous experience working in logistics, but never had a fork truck licence which True Origin have put me through. I had little knowledge of fair trade before starting at True Origin but now being involved, speaking to our suppliers, seeing and hearing about the difference it makes to them, my knowledge is ever growing. 

Sarah Cassidy
ADMIN ASSISTANT

Started at True Origin in May 2023

Before I joined True Origin, I worked as an Administrator for the church we are a part of in Glasgow for 8 years, which was quite a varied role.

My background before that was over 14 years in retail for House of Fraser in the back office and on the shop floor in stores across England and Scotland. 

In my new role as Admin Assistant with True Origin I will be responsible for all admin tasks such as taking your orders, dealing with invoices and enquiries and anything else that’s needed!

SOCIAL MEDIA & COMMS

Started with True Origin in Jan 2021

I have arguably the most fun job at True Origin. I handle all the social media management and content creation on a freelance basis. I get to share the great stories of the producers of our amazing Fair Trade products with our expanding ethically minded followers. 

My interest in Fair Trade began while producing a short series on the subject for BBC World Service Radio visiting producer countries. Prior to True Origin I was communications officer for Fairtrade ANZ and latterly co-ran the Fairtrade sports ball social enterprise Bala Sport. It’s great to be able to market products you truly believe in and that really make a difference.
