Bagels

Try your hand at home made bagels, it's easier than you think

Ingredients:
  • 500g greek yogurt
  • 1 bag of Barrett’s Ridge Beer Bread Mix of your choice
  • 1 egg, whisked (for egg wash)
  • Topping of your choice (we used pekel sprinkle but you can use sesame seeds or poppy seeds)

Method:
  1. Preheat oven to 180°C and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, add yogurt and Barrett’s Ridge Beer Bread mix.
  3. Use a large spoon or spatula to mix flour and yogurt together until it begins to form a crumbly dough. Use your hands to combine the dough together into one ball. The dough will be very sticky.
  4. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead it by hand until it is tacky and no longer sticky.
  5. Divide the dough into eight equal balls and roll into rounds then, with your finger, create a hole in the middle to shape the bagel. Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
  6. Brush the bagels generously with the egg wash and sprinkle with the topping of your choice.
  7. Bake for about 25 minutes or until the bagels are cooked and golden brown and enjoy with the filling of your choice.
